Product information
The design is contemporary but the technology is old!
A Spiral Cellar is a wine cellar in the floor, based on ancient French wine storage principles that have proven their worth as an optimal wine storage for centuries. The concept itself was developed in France in the late 1970s and has since been further developed and refined by our British supplier.
Spiral Cellar has a depth that allows you to get full headroom in your cellar. The depth is also your guarantee that we are in contact with the soil surrounding it, which has a constant temperature all year round and that stability is transferred to your wine cellar. So in addition to being optimal wine storage with a stable temperature, you also have a solution that does not consume energy. At the same time, the result is also a fantastic eye-catcher in both homes and restaurants.
A Spiral Cellar can be fitted in existing houses and of course also in connection with new constructions and extensions, as long as there is access to the ground below.
Size and capacity
Spiral Cellar is made in three models, and each of them can be built in five depths. In other words, you can choose a capacity of between 1,000 and 1,870 bottles.
Without taking up any space in the home, Spiral Cellar is an elegant solution for wine lovers and other avid collectors who either miss ideal storage for an existing collection and/or miss being able to make larger wine purchases or bring home wine from travels, knowing that the space is there to be able to store the investment in optimal conditions.
The three models we offer are respectively
called model Original, model White and model Spirit. Original Spiral Cellar is 2.0 meters in diameter, model White Spiral Cellar is 2.18 meters and model Spirit Spiral Cellar is 2.20 metres measured from the back of the shelf. The cellars are built at depths of 2.00m, 2.25m, 2.50m, 2.75m or 3.00m. The hole that is dug will be larger both in diameter and depth as we cast concrete both under and around your Cellar. You can read more about this in the Process.
As the smallest cellar we offer, you will find model Original with a depth of 2.0m which can store approx. 1,000 bottles of wine. The Cellar with the largest storage capacity is model White with a depth of 3.0m which can store up to 1,870 bottles of wine.
The capacity for each of the five depths we offer can be seen in the table at the bottom of the page for each of the three models.
Building permit
As a rule, installation a Spiral Cellar does not require a building permit as it is not an extension of your living space.
However, the rules for when to apply for a building permit for a wine cellar can vary from country to country, and we also find that the rules are interpreted differently from municipality to municipality. If you want to be on the safe side, ask your municipality for permission before starting your project.
Energy calculation for new construction
A Spiral Cellar does not count towards the total energy calculation in Denmark, According to BR18 (current as of 01.05.2021), the minimum requirements only apply doors and hatches to the outside or to unheated rooms and glass walls and windows to rooms heated to a temperature where the temperature difference between the rooms is 5°C or more.As the temperature in a Spiral Cellar typically fluctuates between 15-16°C throughout the year and the temperature in the room it is established in is typically 20-21°C, the difference in temperature will not exceed 5°C. This means that there are no requirements for the U-value of the hatch of a Spiral Cellar and the solution should not be included in the total energy calculation for a home.
For other countries, please consult the regulations applicable at any given time.
