The process
A Spiral Cellar is made of pre-cast modules and is built into the ground for new buildings, extensions and existing houses that do not already have cellar. This also applies to houses with underfloor heating. The process is obviously a bit more extensive in an existing house, but regardless of the type of project, it's a great way to create storage for your wine collection or as an extension of the kitchen, without taking up expensive living space.

What type of project are you working on?
New construction
It can be a good idea to think about a wine cellar already when you start collecting ideas for your new home.
The location of The cellar is still quite open to you and you can get your architect or construction company to play a bit with the location on the drawings. For that, we have created an Architect's kit with drawings, photos, etc. which you can find here.

New build - Before installation
In collaboration with your architect or us, discuss the optimal location of your wine cellar. There may be considerations such as walkways, the room's current and possible future uses, capacity requirements (number of bottles), visibility of the cellar in relation to your interior design, i.e. whether it should be an obvious interior design detail or rather be camouflaged; your preference for the latter will have an impact on your choice of Trap door. In addition, there are technical considerations such as distance to the outer wall, as this affects how effectively the cellar is ventilated. We can help you with this. In a new construction project where an excavator is used, you may want to consider Kit, Assisted Kit or Fit Install as installation options. New build - Under installation
When the cellar is installed, we make sure to finish our work without interfering with other processes in the building. If the building is still open when the cellar is installed, we cover it up and return to finish at a later date.
New build - After installation
Some of our trap doors require assembly before the final floor is laid. For model White, our finish work begins now, where the shelf fronts are filled and painted. If you have ordered a light package and step tread , this will be fitted as one of the last items. Before we can report your cellar completely ready for delivery, your electrician will install the light switch and Trap door. We test that everything works as it should and congratulate you on your new title as Spiral Cellar Owner.

Extension

Extension - Before installation
Before installing your Spiral Cellar starts, we will jointly find the perfect location for yours Spiral Cellar . Here, the distance to the outer wall is taken into account The cellar must be able to ventilate. Furthermore, where you would like to operate lights and Trap door , so that we can route cables before a possible new floor is cast.In an extension project where an excavator is used, you may want to consider the installation options Kit, Assisted Kit or Fit Install, as there are probably already other builders involved in your project. Extension - During installation
If the hole is prepared, the installation of model Original takes 3-5 days - if not used 5-8 days depending on the depth of The cellar and soil conditions. For model White, 3-4 days are added.Extension - After installation
When your Spiral Cellar is installed and we have completed the finished finish and fitted your Trap door , you can leave your wine cellar open for a few weeks so that the concrete can get rid of the last moisture. It is then ready to be filled with your wines, victuals and other goodies.Often we wait until the building is 'closed' and other finishing work, such as painting, is underway.
Project Tolvsrød - NO
Previously, there was a covered terrace as an extension of the family living room. To incorporate the terrace into the home, we installed a Spiral Cellar while the area was still outdoors and easier to access with an excavator.
Existing home
Basically, a Spiral Cellar is ideal for homes that do not have cellar. This is because it is the soil around the cellar that keeps the temperature stable all year round, regardless of the weather outside. However, it is possible to expand existing cellars with a wine cellar if the surroundings allow us to dig even deeper, or if you have a crawl space that in principle facilitates some of the digging work.
In most existing homes, we can't get in with machines. Therefore, the hole is dug by hand and wheelbarrowed out.
Everything for building the cellar can also fit through a doorway, which makes it possible to do such a project in an existing house.

We lead two ventilation pipes Cellar to the outer wall, which must ensure that we get fresh air in The cellar year round. It takes place without the use of electricity and the distance (the length of the pipes) is important for this passive ventilation to function optimally.Existing home - After installation
All depending on what flooring surrounds yours Cellar , your floor man must now fit the floor around your new wine cellar. If it is a wooden floor, it requires drying time before the floor can be laid, as the concrete must have finished hardening completely.Your brand new Spiral Cellar is now ready to be filled with your favorite wines and other goodies you may choose to store in the cellar.

Installation options
Depending on the type of project you're working on, you can have your contractor, home builder or in-house team take care of everything from excavation to complete installation. Or you can ask us to take care of everything.

Location of the basement
A Spiral Cellar can be installed in virtually any room in the home. The hall, office, living room, kitchen, conservatory/orangery. The most important parameters for a well-functioning cellar are that there is a maximum of 4-5 meters to the nearest north, east or north-east facing wall.
The location of the cellar in the ground means that a temperature of between 15° C – 17° C can be maintained with almost no fluctuations throughout the year, regardless of how the weather outside is.
The ventilation system ensures that the air is constantly replaced. Both ventilation and cooling are energy-free, and therefore not a burden on our environment or your electricity bill.

Choosing a model and optional products
We offer two versions: Model Original and Model White. Both models are available in depths from 2.0m to 3.0m with a capacity from 1,000 - 1,870 bottles depending on depth and model.
Model Original is cast in gray concrete and has a finished size of Ø2.0m. Model White is cast in white concrete, is filled and painted on the fronts and has a finished size of Ø2.18m. Finished dimensions are measured from the back wall of the shelves. The hatch that gives access to the cellar is significantly smaller and therefore not much floor space is needed to give you access to a minimum of 42 extra shelves for wine storage, viktualia and other goodies.
